Taoyuan is the breadbasket of northern Taiwan and this work takes as its inspiration the rice sacks of farmers and wrapping cloth traditionally used to carry items in the Hakka community. Both allude to the commuters of Fugang returning home after a hard day at work or school.
The two sets of stone sculptures represent full bags of rice and wrapping cloth, while the tension used to fasten the cloth creates a visual focal point that is changeable and appealing. The wrapping cloth is styled in a shape that is soft and smooth, allowing visitors to sit, lie down, climb or just touch.
